What is Reiki?
Reiki is the gentle and powerful
Japanese energy healing technique
for stress reduction and relaxation
that also has the benefits of
promoting self healing.
For thousands of years, many ancient
cultures including Japanese, Chinese
and Indian believed that life force
energy flowed through our bodies
affecting our physical and emotional
states.
Modern physics describes energy
fields existing within and around
our physical bodies. This energy
flows around and through us
nourishing our cells, organs and
glands. When the energy flow is out
of balance, one may be susceptible
to disease manifesting itself as
stress, depression, infection, or
other physical, emotional or mental
conditions.
How can Reiki help me?
The flow of Reiki energy, directed
by the practitioner, utilises hands
on healing to support the normal
flow and balance of the human energy
field, enabling self healing. Reiki
not only helps to strengthen and
restore this natural ability to
heal
but is also utilised to support
general health and well-being.
Reiki is beneficial during
virtually any illness and is

Who can benefit from Reiki?
As Reiki is a non-invasive therapy
it can be used without fear of any
side effects or overdose. It may be
used with confidence alongside
conventional medicine or natural
remedies as it acts in a
complementary way. It is suitable
for clients of all ages including
new-born, pregnant mothers, surgical
patients, the frail and elderly
regardless of their state of health.
Hospitals in America commonly use
Reiki to relax patients and optimise
faster healing during their
treatment.
Treatment sessions
A session typically lasts 1 hour and
is usually carried out with the
client lying on the comfortable
therapy couch. There is no need to
remove clothing. I will place my
hands gently in a series of
positions on or over the body. The
most common response to a Reiki
session is one of deep relaxation,
some clients may even fall asleep.
You may also experience warm or cool
sensations throughout the treatment
all of which are entirely normal.
Catherine currently
provides sessions of Reflexology and
Reiki at Goring Hall Hospital
(Monday afternoons) and practices in
East Preston at all others
times. These complementary therapies
can be used in conjunction with most
medical treatments to help alleviate
drug side effects, post operative
pain, improve healing and boost
immunity.
