“ Good health is a gift - treasure it.” Wise words often fall on deaf ears. As the frenetic pace of today’s life continually threatens to leave us behind, it isn’t difficult to see how the last thing on our minds would be the continual and consistent investment of nurturing our most priceless commodity - our body.

Late nights, early mornings, the hustle-bustle of rush-hour traffic. Non-stop phone-calls, paperwork , deadlines.

At last! The end of the day is in sight. Walking in the front door, you breathe a sigh of relief and think about ..... the mountainous pile of ironing, kids packed lunches, walking the dog. The constant demand of your time and energy never ceases. It’s clear to see how lifestyle choices reflect in your general health.

One of the most common complaints people talk about when attending a treatment is lack of energy. There never seems to be enough for when you need it!

When we analyse carefully the food we eat, when we eat it, time spent on leisure activities ( or lack of ) and our work load, we formulate an overall picture of the ‘stresses’ which inhibit proper functioning of our bodies.

For example, insomnia or inability to sleep, affects roughly 25% of the population causing drowsiness, fatigue and poor concentration. But this can be addressed by introducing simple and effective alterations in lifestyle. Reducing stimulants such as caffeine ( found in tea, coffee and cola ) can help enormously as the effects can linger for up to 20 hours. Caffeine is also a diuretic ( a chemical which helps eliminate water from our bodies) and makes it more difficult to maintain the 2 litres of water required fort he efficient running of our bodies. Increasing the amount of exercise can a give positive results as does a long hot soak in a relaxing bath before bed.

It all sounds so simple but how many times have our best intentions for better health fallen at the first hurdle?

In order to jump-start the return to health process, Reflexology has shown to be particularly effective in supporting each of the bodily processes.

By stimulating various points on the feet with gentle thumb pressures and hand movements, the corresponding organs of the body begin to return to optimum efficiency, promoting restful sleep and increasing energy levels.

Current research shows that Reflexology is particularly beneficial to women experiencing hormonal imbalances which present as difficulty in conceiving, problem periods, and menopausal side effects.

The debilitating effect on our minds ( as well as our bodies ) can often be underrated. Many long term sufferers often also experience feelings of depression and anxiety.

In one particular study of 35 women with PMS ( Pre-menstrual Syndrome ),Reflexology was shown to dramatically improve the participants symptoms. Half of the women received treatment to specific reflex points on the feet( hands and ears) and the other half received “placebo” Reflexology (i.e. gentle massage to those general areas). Symptoms were recorded before, during and after the course or treatments. The results described in the study are as follows: “ At the end of the study, the Reflexology group reported a 46% decrease in both somatic (bodily ) and psychological symptoms compared to a 19% reduction in the placebo group.” (carried out by Terry Oleson, Ph.D., and William S. Flocco)

By aiding the body to rebalance in function, the benefits in over coming mood swings, irritability, anger, lethargy, hot flushes and associated symptoms are immeasurable!

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and can bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. For maximum therapeutic benefit, a course of treatments is recommended.

Most clients notice a significant improvement in their symptoms after 3 or 4 sessions. Many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain their new-found good health, well being and peace of mind.
